This game was one of only two NCE games to survive the weather on Saturday and The Robins came away with a vital three points as they won 2-0. Parkgate will feel robbed though because they had the ball in the net four times but each goal was chalked out for offside twice, a foul on the keeper and a handballed finish by ex Robin Steve Ward.
In a very even first half Selby were made to work hard for any chances which came their way. A well worked free kick between Kieron O'Brien and Christian Fox nearly produced a goal after 15mins when O'Brien's cross was met by Andy Dawson who headed close under pressure. Shortly after good inter play by Brenton Leister and Fox released Bruno Holden on goal but his shot went just over the bar. Then Holden created a solo effort which was well saved by David Ratcliffe the Parkgate keeper. A cross from Steve Lyon shortly after found Holden's head but he hit the bar. Parkgate then got forward and Jamie Hawksworth saved well from Gavin Allott and the resulting corner gave Richard Haigh a free header which he sent just over.
Jamie Hawksworth ,drafted in as cover for the absent Mitchell, did well but he had a very competant defence in front of him. Selby took the lead on 42mins when fantastic work from the magical Fox released Holden again and from 20yds Holden hit a grass cutting shot which found the bottom right corner of goal. Brenton Leister, returning from a trip to Vegas, slotted back into the midfield well but was always in the shade of Fox's silky skills. Fox linking well also with O'brien down the left.At the back a man of the match performance by Andrew Hart was a joy to behold he was colossal in sweeping up any loose ball and clearing any danger Parkgate could offer.
Just before the hour came a lovely bit of play by the Robins. Steve Lyon received the ball down the right and he switched play with a lovely cross field pass to O'Brien who knocked it to Fox. Fox passed back to O'Brien to cross to the far post where Lyon was on hand to sidefoot home for his fifth goal of the season and fourth in three games. While Selby showed some great movement Parkgate still kept them on their toes by those four disallowed goals. Selby missed an opportunity to score a third when Parkgate had pushed everyone forward including the keeper, their attack was cut out by Hart and Tom Matthews shot from the halfway line towards an empty net but failed to hit the target.
